Was CosmoGIRL superfluous?

I feel pretty smart. Kinda.

One of my last semesters in college included a PR class. We had to write a fictional press release. My idea? Hearst publications notifying its readers that due to the environmental concerns, and the glaring similarity to Seventeen magazine, CosmoGIRL would cease publication, or be condensed with Seventeen.

Seventeen has been around forever. It was bought by Hearst, I believe, in the early 2000s, around the time CosmoGIRL was launched.

Over a year later, I was proven prophetic. Yup. Hearst Publications has ceased publication of CosmoGIRL.

They offered both mags for $12/year. I got both. 50 cents a magazine? I ain't complaining.

But how many times can you read about idiotic not-really-famous celebrities, (America's Next Top Model Winner! Heidi Montag from The Hills!) and The Best Make-Up for Your Skin! The Cutest Outfits! What His Kiss Says! How To Make Him Like You! How to Lose Weight Fast! ...all the while convincing us that we aren't all about what we wear, we shouldn't have to make him like us, and we should love our bodies...

So, in the end, will I miss CosmoGIRL?

Not too much.
